4 days Bwindi gorilla nature safari and Lake Mburo National Park

This safari takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable and Lake Mburo National Parks. It involves various adventure activities that include Mountain Gorilla Tracking, bird watching, Nature Walks and Game Viewing. Bwindi is home to 326 gorillas, almost a half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas.
There are also 346 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies. This afromontane forest has dense under storey of fern, vines and shrubs. About 324 tree species have been recorded here, 10 of which occur nowhere else in Uganda. Other wildlife which you are likely to encounter in Bwindi includes a large variety of primates; Chimpanzees, Blue monkey and Black & White colobus monkey, antelope and forest elephants. Tour of Lake Mburo National Park will subject you to a very special experience! Every part of the park is alive with variety, interest and colour. Lake Mburo National Park contains an extensive area of wetland and harbours several species of mammals including zebras, impalas, elands, topi and buffaloes.
The bird population of Lake Mburo includes the rare Shoebill stork. Its sculptured landscape with rolling grassy hills and idyllic lakeshores has a varied mosaic of habitats: forest galleries, rich acacia tree valleys, seasonal and permanent swamps which all support a wealth of wildlife.
The park has a mosaic habitat with; dry hillside, rocky outcrops, bushes, thickets, open and wooded savannahs, forests, lakes and swamps are home to a surprising diversity of plants and animals.

  • Day 1: Kampala - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (L, D)

  • Depart Kampala early in the morning by road and head south-westwards driving to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, best known for Mountain Gorilla tracking. This beautiful and scenic journey will take you through Uganda’s rolling green hills through the highlands, also known as the 'Switzerland of Uganda' before making the final journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain gorilla. On your way to Bwindi Gorilla Park, You will have a stopover for lunch in Mbarara. Check in at your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Uganda(B,L,D)

This morning you will have to wake up very early to get ready for the most thrilling activity of Gorilla tracking! Report at the ranger station at 8:00am with your lunch boxes and all thenecessary gear where the guides will take you to track the rare Mountain Gorilla, perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. Gorilla tracking in Bwindi can take between a few hours and the whole day depending on the group that is being tracked.
The guides describe the surroundings and the lifestyle of the animals in depth. After tracking, you can relax at your accommodation or go for a guided village walk to visit the Local Batwa Community returning in time for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Travel to Lake Mburo(B,L,D)

After breakfast the safari will proceed to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive takes approximately 7-8 hours with scenic views on the way all through. You will have a stopover in Mbarara town for lunch before making the final descent to Lake Mburo National Park. Upon arrival in Lake Mburo National Park and checking in at your accommodation, you will go for an afternoon boat trip. This park is an extension of the Tanzanian Plains with big herds of Zebra, Impala, Eland and other savannah species. For birders, this is one of the best places to find African Fin foot, Papyrus, Bush Shrike. Go for an evening game drive. Retire for the evening and spend the night at your accommodation.

Day 4: Nature Walk/Game drive and Depart for Kampala (B,L)
This is the final day of your trip. After breakfast, have a guided nature walk where you will stop
animals like impalas, warthog, zebras, waterbuck, and the bush back. The 6 lakes, largest being Lake Mburo, are all interconnected by swamps. These wetlands are a home to Sitatunga, hippos, Nile crocodiles, Fish and a lot of birds including the rare African Finfoot and then proceed to Kampala which is approximately 3 to 4hrs drive. This drive will take you across the Equator where you will stop for photography as well as an informative talk, a stop at the Royal Drum makers is so rewarding, arriving in Kampala in the evening.
